What National Emergency
Letter to Editor: November 2009
A national emergency has been declared, suspending federal requirements and speeding up influenza treatment. Where's the emergency?

The mostly mild H1N1 virus is not becoming deadly. The few deaths occur in patients with medical conditions like asthma, obesity, or bacterial infections.

The government claims there have been more than 1000 deaths from H1N1 influenza. Where's the proof? Let's see the evidence of tracking and lab-confirming the cases.

In July, the CDC decided to have states stop counting individual H1N1 cases. Some states, like Wyoming, continued to do so. Between late May and October 23, a little over a third of the Wyoming patients tested have had H1N1 viruses.

CBS News recently investigated actual numbers of H1N1 cases compared with regular flu and influenza-like-illnesses and found the vast majority of cases were negative for H1N1 and seasonal flu, even though many states were testing patients most likely to have H1N1 flu. []

Are flu vaccines effective enough to be worth the risk of side effects? Look at the vaccine package inserts. Dr. Sherri Tenpenny found in Novartis's H1N1 vaccine insert that it only protects UP TO 50% of people from getting the flu. []

Read the November 2009 issue of The Atlantic Monthly for a great article explaining the in-effectiveness of flu shots and antiviral drugs.

Each year, there are an average of 200,000 preventable hospital deaths from hospital-acquired infections and medical errors. The Centers for Disease Control claims there are 36,000 yearly flu-related deaths. The 1000 H1N1 deaths since April is a fraction of 36,000 deaths. Why not declare emergencies for the more prevalent causes?

Immune systems are poorly understood. There is an absence of knowledge of vaccination's impact upon immune function. Scientists don't even know how to determine what reactions are, or are not, vaccine-induced.

It is a mistake to fast-track new vaccines. Independent (not by manufacturing companies), long-term research needs to be done. We need studies comparing vaccinated with completely unvaccinated people.

The government has granted manufacturers immunity from liability for vaccines, drugs, or products used for a public health emergency. Is that why the emergency was declared?

Instead of spending billions on vaccines, let's study immune-boosting and healing techniques and promote better hygiene.
